Basic care under SGB XI
What is it?
Basic care (Grundpflege) covers everyday help such as personal hygiene, nutrition and mobility. The aim is to support people in their familiar surroundings and preserve their independence for as long as possible.
Who pays?
The cost is normally covered by the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) once a care level (Pflegegrad) of 2–5 has been assessed. Each care level comes with a fixed monthly budget for home care services.
